Great news, Mom’s Got An Oil For That!

It is the WORST feeling when your little one is not feeling well and so often we feel helpless. Applying essential oils is a great way to use four of our 5 senses at the same time to help our little ones feel better.

Sight – They can see you are present and paying attention to only them.

Smell – The amazing aroma of the essential oils helps calm and relax not only your child but any anxious momma feelings.

Touch – Mom’s soothing touch is the best kind of “medicine”. The love that is expressed helps mom and child feel safe and protected.

Sound – Now this one really is up to you. I sing or hum to my children but if that isn’t your thing then soft music playing is a great choice.

If we want to go for all 5 senses then check out this great recipe for Honey Lollipops.

Ingredients
1 cup sugar
⅓ cup honey
2 tablespoons water
5 drops Lemon oil, or oil of choice

Instructions

1. Pour the sugar, honey, and water into a medium saucepan.
2. On medium heat, stir ingredients together with a wooden spoon until sugar dissolves.
3. Once sugar dissolves, place a candy thermometer in the pan and allow ingredients to boil.
4. While the mixture is boiling, prepare candy molds with non-stick spray and sucker sticks.
5. Let mixture boil until temperature reaches 295° F, or the hard crack stage.
6. Immediately pour into a heat-resistant measuring cup. Add essential oil and stir.
7. Pour mixture into candy molds. Twist sucker sticks to make sure they are fully coated.
8. Let suckers rest for at least 30 minutes before removing from mold.

Tip: If you decide to use another oil, consider reducing five drops oil to a toothpick or one to two drops when using an oil you would usually dilute for sensitivity, such as Cinnamon Bark.

Wake up and Smell the oils

Today’s “Do you dōTERRA daily” is an easy one. Do you have a diffuser? If so, add water, oils and inhale! It’s that easy! How often do we forget this SIMPLE step?

If you don’t have a diffuser, grab your favorite essential oil (mine is Citrus Bliss) open the bottle and inhale. It’s that simple!

Want to get fancy? Put a drop in your hand, rub your hands together, cup them, bring them up to your face, and inhale.

Do you doTERRA daily?

Everyday I see people complaining about this ache or that pain. I see them talking about how sick and tired they are of being sick and tired and I think… I’ve got an oil for that. But it is so much more than that!

I realized that people aren’t using their oils and supplements daily. They aren’t using natural cleaning products. dōTERRA hasn’t become a lifestyle for them. So, I decided I need to speak more about my daily routine, my daily dōTERRA.

Don’t get me wrong, dōTERRA isn’t the “fix” for everything…

… but it’s pretty darn close. (Can someone please get this guy to the hospital?)

I also know that people get overwhelmed. Wow that’s a lot of supplements to take, man I can’t remember all that, with the mixing and the carrier oils… oy vey!

Not to worry, we’ll take it slow. I’ll just show you a bit every day so you too can “dōTERRA daily.“

Today we are going to start out with one simple thing that you can do daily to support your immune system. Now, just like everything else in life you have choices and I’m going to give you a few. That does NOT mean that you have to do all of them. It just means that you can choose the one that you like best.

I wake up every morning and I put oils on my feet to help support my immune system. I have my go-to’s depending on how I’m feeling.

#1 Stronger – Yes this is a kids blend, but it smells AMAZING and it is strong enough for an adult, gentle enough to use on little ones.

#2 OnGuard – This is what I used daily before they made Stronger. Now here you have another choice, you could put 1-2 drops on straight (did that for years) or you can use the OnGuard Touch which is prediluted so perfectly safe to use on yourself and children.

#3 Oregano Touch – This is when I start to feel a little under the weather and I want to nip it in the bud right away. I will still use the On Guard but I add the Oregano Touch for that extra support.

You can stop here if you want and just get to “doing your daily dōTERRA” Or you can continue and read more about how and why it works in the following links: Stronger, OnGuard, OnGuard Super Science-y Study Oregano, and my personal favorite… All the things! Be sure to watch the videos in that link.

Frankincense I literally Put That Sh…Stuff On EVERYTHING!!

One of the things that people that are into essential oils will tell you is “When in doubt but Frankincense on it.” Well that’s great and all but…why? Well hopefully I can help you understand the why behind it.

doTERRA Frankincense

Frankincense oil has been around for thousands of years, there is a reason that it was a gift to baby Jesus because this stuff is almost miraculous (except its actually science) It is revered for its ability to beautify and rejuvenate skin when applied topically. It is used in a lot of beauty products.

Frankincense is also used to promote cellular health and immunity by helping your body to produce a healthy inflammatory response when taken internally.

doTERRA Frankincense

I could go deep into the science of why Frankincense works but I don’t have to, if you want to read all the science-y goodness of how it contains a complex mixture of monoterpenes such as alpha-pinene, Limonene, alpha-Thujene, and beta-Pinene. then visit the doTERRA Science Blog. This blog can explain it a lot better than I can.

What I can do is share with you a few different ways I use Frank daily.

My beauty routine wouldn’t happen with out my buddy Frankie. It is in my Essential Skin Care line and I add a little extra because well…wrinkles LOL. I always thought that I would just allow myself to go grey and grow old gracefully. That was until I started aging outwardly but inwardly I still feel like I’m in my 20’s. So, I will do all I can to naturally fight all that outward signs of aging.

doTERRA Essential Skin Care

Frank and I work on my cellular health because if your cells aren’t healthy well you aren’t healthy. I take my Life Long Vitality Vitamins daily to help feed my body on a cellular level. (These vitamins deserve a whole blog post so I will work on that)

doTERRA LifeLong Vitality Vitamins

Another thing that Frank helps me with is my big Toe. I have a toe that I have broken so many times that I have been told that I have something that starts with “A” happening in that Toe…but I am not old enough for that to be happening…just sayin.

But If I were to have that “A” thing then my daily drop of Frankincense on my toe is perfect. It helps my body to produce a healthy inflammatory response. So if you know people that are old enough…who am I kidding… everyone can benefit from using frankincense to support the body when occasional inflammation happens…even if that occasion is daily.

Well hopefully I’ve helped you see that you and Frank can be best friends but if you need more convincing or information please check out this doTERRA blog post https://www.doterra.com/US/en/blog/spotlight-frankincense-oil

Lemon Eucalyptus changing lives!!!

Let me tell you a powerful story about what is happening on the other side of that Lemon Eucalyptus bottle…

This is Melle pictured with one of our founders, Emily Wright. Melle lives in Lunga Lunga, near the Tanzania border in Kenya. It is one of the poorest regions in the country, with an average family income of less than $1 a day. Melle is one of several female farmers we employ in Lunga Lunga. She has eight children, and before dōTERRA, it was not uncommon for them to go days without eating because there wasn’t enough food to go around.

When doTERRA realized this region was ideal for growing tea tree plants, we knew we could bring industry and opportunity to people in desperate need. The doTERRA Sourcing Team gave Melle some young tea tree starts, helped her plant them, and taught her how to cultivate and care for them. Six months later, we returned to teach her how to harvest tea tree. She was paid immediately for the crop she had cared for. It was more money than she dreamed of making in her lifetime, and she will have a harvest every six months.

On that return trip, our sourcing team noticed some wild Lemon Eucalyptus growing around her farm… The wheels began turning. What if we could create another stream of income for Melle and the other farmers with the Lemon Eucalyptus?

Melle harvested, we distilled and to our delight, we were pleased to see that after our battery of quality testings, the Lemon Eucalyptus oil met our CPTG standards! But we didn’t stop there. We worked with her to set up a savings account and taught her how to budget her money. In three years Melle will have enough money to become a landowner through the program we have established for our small-scale farmer partners in the Lunga Lunga region!

How amazing is that?!

From day one, doTERRA has looked for every possible way to lift people up from beginning to end of the sourcing process starting with our wonderful farmers. This is not the easy way, nor the inexpensive way, but it’s the right way. And for doTERRA, that is the ONLY way.

Where we circulate our money matters. I am so proud to purchase and use my Lemon Eucalyptus and you should be too! Now you know the beautiful story on the other side of the bottle! For more on this story, check out this link: http://bit.ly/2oulKKl

doTERRA might make you swear…

I had the best experience working with a 15 year old with Anger issues. When we first started talking he was pleasant but closed off to the idea of essential oils. He wanted to know if this was scientifically proven…son, science is a bit of my specialty when it comes to oils.

So I busted out some of my best science-y talk about how your amygdala is your emotional center and how the fastest way to the amygdala is through your olfactory senses. He was convinced enough to let me try and help him.

I asked him “What do you have going on in your life that I can help you with? He said “I get really angry and I can’t control it”

So I looked in my emotions and essential oils book and saw a list of oils that could help. I decided to try the Forgive blend. My main thoughts for using this blend was that even though he was talking about how angry he was it seemed like he was mad at himself for not being in control of his life. I also thought that maybe there are a few people in his life that he might need to forgive so…that’s what I went with.

At first, he held the open bottle and sniffed…then he leaned in and inhaled and I actually saw his body relax and he deeply inhaled again. He held the bottle out, looked at it with awe and quietly said “Shiiiiit”. He was in a bit of shock at how quickly the essential oils worked to help him feel calm.

He looked at me and asked “Can I vape this?” Ok kid that is a whole other conversation about why that is bad for you. “No, you can’t vape this. Let me show you how you can make your hands into a quick diffuser.”

We then showed him how to carefully drop one drop into his hands, rub them together and breathe deeply without getting oils in his eyes.

I LOVED this experience! It was so great to see him taking control of his own emotions and understanding that he truly was in control.

As a mom of 4 amazing (sometimes angry) humans I have to say that I loved seeing hope in his mom’s eyes…I know that hopeless feeling when your kids are frustrated but there is nothing that you can do about it. Well…there is one more momma out there knowing that she’s not completely helpless.

My Copaiba can beat up your CBD!

I can’ tell you how many times I get this question… Do you have CBD oil? To answer your question no I don’t have CBD. There is a lot of hype around CBD and for good reason. There are a lot of benefits that can happen when you feed your CB2 receptors.

If you don’t know what your CB2 receptors are here’s a little info…CB2 receptors are most often found on the cells of our immune system. They help moderate inflammation and our immune response to pathogens. When these receptors are fed properly then they help our body respond better to everyday stressors and occasional threats. CBD, THC and Copaiba all feed your CB receptors so how do you know what to pick?

Do you know how hard it is to break down complicated sciencey stuff into a short easy to understand blog post??? Maybe this will help…

Here is why I feel Copaiba is a better option than CBD.

  • Copaiba is legal in all 50 states. This is a especially important if you have a job where you are required to be urine tested. Copaiba is the resin of a tree, tapped in the same way that you tap a Maple Tree.
  • Copaiba directly interacts with your CB2 receptors rather than indirectly which is what CBD does.
  • doTERRA’s Copaiba is third party tested, and has a strict limited variance meaning that between bottles and batches you are going to have consistent results. Unlike CBD which when third party tested the same company, same product, but different batches had a variance of 2%-35%. (Many different companies were tested)
  • doTERRA’s Copiaba is a much better value! Price, Purity, Potency, AND Pathways. But don’t take my word for it check out this AMAZING video with Dr. Hill and Dr. Osguthorpe

To Sunblock Or Not To Sunblock…That Is The Question

There is so much in the news about sunblock being vital to avoid skin cancer and now we are hearing that sunblock is the reason for skin cancer, it is very hard to know what is true.

You can find research for both sides of the argument, so who do you believe? I really don’t have the answer for YOU ( I know what I prefer for my family) what I can do is post a few links that I’ve read and allow you to do your own deciding.

I can also tell you from my own experience you can’t believe that all natural sunblocks are actually all natural. Or just because the company adds words like clean, natural or even organic to their product or name of their company that it will be completely clean, natural or organic. I ended up with a chemical burn using Babyganics Kids SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray this winter when I went to Mexico. I have since discovered and app called “Think Dirty” That shows you rating on how clean and natural or how dirty and chemical laden your products are. This one gets an 8/10…you want to keep your numbers low to have a clean product.

Unfortunately I never got a before pic. This is when it was mostly healed

The other thing I can do is give you a recipe for a natural sunscreen that I’ve made, tried and tested it on my sensitive Minnesotan skin, and give it two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Here’s what you need: Grape Seed Oil, Sesame Seed Oil, Lavender, Melaleuca, Sandalwood and Helichrysm Essential Oil. A 2 oz spray bottle and distilled water.

I actually did the whole blogger thing and took pics while I was making the blend. I was so proud of myself…well…most of them disappeared somewhere in the digital ether. So here you go just make it and you can take pics yourself if you really need all that LOL

I will tell you that I used this recipe and then went out with my boys paddleboarding for a few hours on a full sun, 90 degree day. I DID NOT BURN!!!! That was amazing! Now I will tell you that this recipe is NOT waterproof and I’m not sure how often to reapply yet. As I figure this stuff out I will let you know.

Now get out there and enjoy summer!

I’m Not Okay…That’s Okay

May is Mental Health Awareness month, I am so grateful that mental health awareness is becoming so mainstream. This is something that should be talked about openly and often. I have lost friends and family members due to mental health issues. I have close friends and family member that deal with different mental health issues, and I myself have dealt with bouts of depression, anxious feelings and panic attacks. Thankfully they have been few and fleeting and not of the clinical nature.

About 5 years ago I started having panic attacks. I’m not sure why they started. At the time I had a lot of things going on, it was after my car accident, I was traveling a lot and I was trying to figure out who I was. Whatever the reason, they started and they were terrifying.

The first time I had one thankfully I was with a friend, I was gasping for air and not understanding at all what was happening. He looked at me and asked what he could do and all I could manage to say was “lime”. He grabbed the lime oil and got it on my hand. Within a few minutes I was able to breathe in enough to calm my limbic system down and breathe.

I had watched my mom have panic attacks several times growing up. Each time resulted in her ending up in the ER for help. Each time it was hours of getting her the right help and then waiting for the concoction to kick in and then hours of recovery from the “fix”. Then days for me to get my mom back.

I’m so thankful for the doctors that helped my mom. It might be sad to say but I’m thankful that I was able to see that growing up so that when it happened to me, after I was safe and calm, I understood what had happened. Mom I’m so sorry that you had to go through that and grateful that your experience was able to help me.

I’m also grateful that I have many options available to me to get help. What I have found that works for me quickly, and effectively is:

Essential oil right away – My family knows to get Breathe oil or any citrus oil. (you will have to figure out your “happy place” oil) They put a drop on my hand and slowly lift my hand toward my face. Do not get in a person’s face if they are having a panic attack this will only freak them out more. The more control you can give them over their own situation the better.

Calm music, Guided meditations, or affirmations that you know work for you. – You can prep your family to know what helps you the most. Talk about this when life is good. Let your friends and family know how to help you through the attack. You can even write up a formal plan and have your emergency kit in a place that is easily accessible. If you are out, make sure that you have a small emergency kit in your bag/purse.

I have found that using these methods I’ve been able to gain control in just a few minutes. I am so thankful for the love and support of my friends and family. I’m also thankful that this subject is no longer taboo at my house and in my circle. I’m also thankful that if the methods above don’t work for any reason the rest of the plan is put in place. If I’m not able to calm down in a timely manner then we will head to the nearest ER and get professional help.

I hope that you find this information helpful. There are MANY resources available to you, here are a few of my favorites:

  • Essential oils of course! – I carry them with me everywhere. Figure out your “happy place” oils. If you need help with this feel free to contact me and we will do a “sampling”. Kind of like a wine tasting but for your nose.
  • Insight Timer – Best app for guided meditations
  • Lots of water and Exercise
  • Counseling – I think everyone should do counseling at some point in their life. It is so incredibly helpful.
  • Other peoples blogs – here is one written by a good friend of mine
    https://beyondabuseessentialhealing.com/
  • Self help books: Big Magic, You are a Badass, Girl Wash Your Face, Girl Stop Apologizing, Braving the Wilderness, Loving What is. I know that there are a bunch more but these are a good start.

Whatever method you choose to help with your mental health, please know that there is no shame in reaching out for help. This is definitely a road that should not be traveled alone. Please talk about it with friends and family, you might be surprised by how many people not only want to help but might need your help in return.
