Essential Oils in Laundry Routine

Don’t you wish this was your laundry room? Me too 😉

Do you care about improving your health? Of course you do!!! It’s time to address your laundry room. Let me share with you my cleaning secrets!

Today’s “Do you doTERRA daily?” is all about how to include essential oils in your laundry routine. Some essential oils can have natural cleansing and purifying properties. They are effective cleaning agents because they are potent and powerful. (I love how cool nature is!)

Washing Machine Cleaner

Have you made friends with your washing machine? Does he or she have a name? Mine is Gerty. She’s a strong, powerful machine that is able to tackle my family’s high demands. And in return for her amazing service I make sure to take good care of her. Part of that is making sure that Gerty is nice and clean. Cleaning your washing machine regularly is necessary. It can prolong the life of your beloved washing machine (friend) and ensures a higher-quality wash. Once a week after you’ve finished a batch of laundry, use this recipe with Tea Tree and Grapefruit oils to help cleanse and refresh your machine.

Ingredients

¾ cup white vinegar

10 drops Tea Tree (Melaleuca) oil

5 drops Grapefruit oil

Instructions

In an eight-ounce glass spray bottle, combine all ingredients.

Shake well and spray the solution around the seal (the rubber at the front), drum, and door of your washing machine.

Using a soft cloth, thoroughly wipe down.

Remove your soap dispenser tray. Spray and wipe down, then put it back.

Let air dry before you do the next batch of laundry.

For top-loading washers, you can use this same recipe to wipe down the drum and outside of your washer.

For additional recipes, check out this doTerra blog. Try this recipe weekly to deep clean your washing machine (Gerty Loves it!)

Ever notice how your linens start to smell like the closet they are in? Not to worry…

Freshen your Linens with Lavender and Eucalyptus

Natural linen spray gets clothes clean without the presence of chemicals. Here’s a simple way to make a linen spray that adds a fresh, clean aroma to your home and cabinet.

These essential oils combined will create an uplifting, calming, and refreshing linen spray.

dōTERRA On Guard® Laundry Detergent (This is Gerty’s favorite!)

Most traditional laundry detergents that you can find in supermarkets or stores are packed with chemicals. These chemicals are harmful to the environment and to you. Think about the fact that your clothes rub up against you all day, or you cuddle up in your blankets all night. Don’t you want to make sure that your clothes and blankets are washed in a safe, non-toxic detergent? Have you thought of switching from a traditional detergent to a natural detergent? If so, then doTERRA has the perfect solution for you, doTERRA On Guard Laundry Detergent.

With safe, natural ingredients and powerful essential oils, the doTERRA On Guard Laundry Detergent formula provides a non-toxic solution for lifting stains and giving clothes a lovely, clean scent. A simple swap in the laundry detergent can greatly reduce toxins in your home.

Quick and Easy Gift Idea!

Today’s “Do you dōTERRA daily?” is actually yesterdays. Oops…if you have a problem with this being a day late then you can go back and read the blog from last week titled “Ugh… I’m Sorry”

Yesterday was my daughters bridal shower. It was an extremely busy, beautiful day. I made sure to ask the blushing bride what she wanted in the diffuser. Her favorite scent is cinnamon

We had food, games and opening of presents, all the traditional bridal shower things. Then as each guest left we gave them a bath salt ornament. These are quick and easy gifts that were a total hit 😊

Here’s all you need:

  • Plastic Ball Ornament – You can get these at your local craft store. Now is the time to purchase for next year.
  • Salt – I like sea salt or Pink Himalayan salt. You can also use Epsom salt.
  • Tea – I generally use Organic Chamomile. This adds a bit of color and is completely safe for the bath.
  • Essential Oils – For these ones we used Lavender but you can add any essential oils that you want to bathe in. For a bath I generally suggest no more than 6-10 drops of whatever oil you like to add.
  • (You can get fancy and add dye like in the featured picture. I think they are super pretty but I’m careful when adding any color. Plus it is a lot more work.)

Funny side note story. There is a reason that you should add the essential oils (EO) to the salts, then the salts to the bath and not just drop essential oils into your bath water then sit down. Ummm… EO’s float. If you’ve added them to the salt then the salt weighs it down to mix with the water. But let’s say you just add EO’s to your water then sit down…on top of the EO’s… ummm… it might make for an uncomfortable bath if you get what I’m saying.

How clean are your brushes?

Are your makeup brushes in need of some deep cleaning? This is one of the reasons that we have skin problems. We never think about cleaning our brushes. Today’s “Do you dōTERRA daily” is a makeup brush cleanser that is super easy and only requires three simple ingredients.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil
5 drops Tea Tree oil
5 drops Grapefruit oil

Instructions

  1. Add Fractionated Coconut Oil and essential oils into a small bowl.
  2. Swirl your makeup brush in the Fractionated Coconut Oil mixture for 30 seconds, or until you see the makeup stored in your brush start to come out.
  3. Rub in a circular motion on the palm of hand to help get the makeup out.
  4. Rinse the brush under warm water. Gently squeeze brush bristles until clean, and the water runs clear. Note: Make sure to point the bristles down when running under water. Direct water contact may loosen the glue where the bristles are attached and shorten the life of your brushes.
  5. Let your newly cleaned makeup brushes dry on a towel for four hours, or until dry. Repeat once a month, or as needed.

And just because I like to have options, I thought you might like a few too…

Get thee hence satan (or super bugs)

Oh the cleaning that has been happening around here is crazy! If you read Tuesday’s blog then you know the “visitor” that has invaded my house is not one that is a welcome guest. Hands are being washed every few minutes, my son has been banished from the kitchen and all the door handles, light switches and stair railings have been wiped down…repeatedly with OnGuard Spray.

Here’s the cool thing, no one else in the house is displaying any symptoms so we are pretty sure that our uninvited guest got the idea and has vacated the building.

You might ask why I use OnGuard and not typical household cleaners? Science is why!! Check out this super cool science project that was done by a 5th grader

Did you know that chemical cleaners are not only hazardous for your health in many ways, they are pretty ineffective. The only thing that performs as well or better than OnGuard is straight up bleach in every Petri dish experiment I’ve seen! Kids can clean with OnGuard and even lick it with no concerns to toxicity.

This was a post by Katy Smolik. Her son Hayden did a 5th-grade school project on OnGuard essential oil versus Clorox and Lysol and how it kills bacteria. His results speak volumes! Katy said the Clorox didn’t make it a day! The bacteria was sourced from their chicken coop.

Today’s “Do you dōTERRA daily” is to make the switch to On Guard products. There are a bunch of them, I’m not going to stop you from getting them all (I couldn’t live without them all) but I will tell you if you can only switch one right now go with the On Guard Blend. When you have this blend, you can DIY most of the rest of them.

No time to DIY, me either, get all the OnGuard Products here. You won’t regret it

To Sunblock Or Not To Sunblock…That Is The Question

There is so much in the news about sunblock being vital to avoid skin cancer and now we are hearing that sunblock is the reason for skin cancer, it is very hard to know what is true.

You can find research for both sides of the argument, so who do you believe? I really don’t have the answer for YOU ( I know what I prefer for my family) what I can do is post a few links that I’ve read and allow you to do your own deciding.

I can also tell you from my own experience you can’t believe that all natural sunblocks are actually all natural. Or just because the company adds words like clean, natural or even organic to their product or name of their company that it will be completely clean, natural or organic. I ended up with a chemical burn using Babyganics Kids SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray this winter when I went to Mexico. I have since discovered and app called “Think Dirty” That shows you rating on how clean and natural or how dirty and chemical laden your products are. This one gets an 8/10…you want to keep your numbers low to have a clean product.

Unfortunately I never got a before pic. This is when it was mostly healed

The other thing I can do is give you a recipe for a natural sunscreen that I’ve made, tried and tested it on my sensitive Minnesotan skin, and give it two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Here’s what you need: Grape Seed Oil, Sesame Seed Oil, Lavender, Melaleuca, Sandalwood and Helichrysm Essential Oil. A 2 oz spray bottle and distilled water.

I actually did the whole blogger thing and took pics while I was making the blend. I was so proud of myself…well…most of them disappeared somewhere in the digital ether. So here you go just make it and you can take pics yourself if you really need all that LOL

I will tell you that I used this recipe and then went out with my boys paddleboarding for a few hours on a full sun, 90 degree day. I DID NOT BURN!!!! That was amazing! Now I will tell you that this recipe is NOT waterproof and I’m not sure how often to reapply yet. As I figure this stuff out I will let you know.

Now get out there and enjoy summer!
